Position Title: GICF Pastor
Gaithersburg International Christian Fellowship (GICF) is an English congregation within the Gaithersburg Chinese Alliance Church (GCAC). We are searching for a GICF pastor to serve under the senior pastor in the following areas:
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Fulfill the calling as primary preacher/teacher and vision caster as well as demonstrate an ability to inspire and build community for this congregation.
- Develop leaders’ other ministerial gifts so that the congregation is able to thrive in the church’s mission, vision, strategy, and structure.
- Oversee the day-to-day ministry of the congregation and assist in administration of the church, under the leadership of the senior pastor.
- Recognize and enlist evangelistic, pastoral and teaching ministries, along with that of the Elders, and additional staff members, as necessary for a healthy and balanced spiritual ministry to the body of believers.
- Coordinate the teaching schedule and preach eighty-percent of Sundays throughout the year.
- Monitor the heartbeat and metrics of the congregation to assure that people are spiritually fed and growing in Jesus and in relationships with one another.
- Provide thoughtful and compassionate pastoral care to congregation members in a holistic manner, caring for the members’ spiritual, emotional, mental and physical needs.

The ideal candidate will show a passion for and commitment to GCAC’s mission, have a demonstrated history of Jesus-centered inclusive theology, and a strong desire to champion a thoughtful and authentic Christianity to help build a diverse community.
- Devotes oneself to prayer and is guided by the Scriptures
- Is a strong leader and visionary with an entrepreneurial spirit
- Is relatable and approachable, a good listener, and comfortable and committed to ministering to a diverse congregation
- Is a highly gifted communicator
- Is relationally healthy and understands the important balance of transparency and confidentiality in sacred spaces
- Is not afraid to trust the staff and leadership at GCAC
- Is comfortable delegating, and leads with a collaborative spirit
- Encourages people, and equips them to try things and learn from their mistakes
- Lives in a spirit of authenticity
- Can develop leaders of leaders, and equips others to speak, lead, or teach
- Shows humility when it comes to leadership and spiritual gifts
Teaching
- Thoughtful teaching, rooted in Scripture
- Teaching should strike a balance between being deep and wide. Older Christians should learn something, but it needs to be accessible to seekers.
- Teaching should be practical and should answer the question, “What’s the next step?”
- Teaching should foster a learning environment where people are challenged and motivated to live more like Jesus and grow in their faith.
- In this position, the applicant should expect to teach 80% of Sundays.
Education
- Masters of Divinity or compatible seminary degree with further theological training is preferred
- Ordination is required. Accreditation as an Official Worker of the Christian and Missionary Alliance is preferred
Experience
- Prior experience as an Associate Pastor or Assistant Pastor
- Prior experience ministering within a multicultural setting preferred
- At least 2 years preaching experience is preferred
